Portrait drawing class

Art

Last night I went to a portrait drawing class. We drew a skull, which is cool, but I keep hearing how helpful sketching skulls is to portrait work and I don’t get it. Theoretically it makes sense, but I never find myself thinking about the skull beneath when I’m drawing someone’s face.

We also drew from a model. This drawing took about 40 minutes.

She looks a little bearded here but I assure you, she has no beard in real life. Sketching from life is much more challenging than from photos, but it’s good practice.
